Vintage turquoise scarab stickpin in yellow gold. Unfortunately I don’t see a mark for metal content so I don’t know what Carat gold the pin is made of.

viennadiagram You should get the gold content checked by a jeweler or pawn shop.

arobb123 @viennadiagram hi, thx for your interest. generally gold content is tested using a scratch test, which leaves just that on the jewelry item. I would prefer not to do this, particularly to vintage and antique pieces. This stick pin belonged to my mother in law and she came from a prominent family and she didn’t wear or own costume pieces, so I’m confident it is not costume. 😃

viennadiagram @arobb123 yes, I know how gold is tested. I am a jewelry artist. There are other ways than a scratch test. Many high-end jewelers, particularly ones that specialize in antique jewelry, will have other methods. I just like to know exactly what I’m getting for that price. I’m sure that you can understand.

arobb123 @thewombeth hi and thx for your patience. i used a 10x jewelers loupe and unfortunately the marks on the stem are just not discernible. it appears to be a series of curved lines that vary slightly from one another. i don't really have any history on this piece either, as it was my mother in law's stick pin and she is now deceased. perhaps it's a scarab stick pin from egypt with egyptian marks/letters stamped on it. i honestly don't know. i'm so sorry for not being able to say definitively. :)
