John Severson was an editor, author, filmmaker and artist, widely known as the founder of Surfer magazine. In the early 1970's, Severson sold Surfer and moved to Maui. It was there that he designed a line of Hawaiian Aloha shirts for the Kahala brand - the John Severson collection.
