This is a vintage, mid-century Japanese Nagajuban (long kimono under-robe) of fuchsia raw silk. The body lining is mustard cotton, with sleeve linings in red cotton, and a white textured silk collar. The fuchsia silk has many variations in color - this would have been a very long piece of fabric hand-dyed for color variation - this is not fading or discoloration from storage/age. The overall design is a graphic pattern of hand-stamped purple & red chrysanthemum, carnation, and cherry blossoms.
There are faint areas of ghost flowers from the hand-stamping process, and the raw silk has a nubby texture that comes from the uneven yarns used in the weaving process. There are no visible flaws beyond the ghost flowers, which are part of the original nagajuban, and do nothing to detract from its beauty. As this is a true vintage piece, there may be flaws commensurate with age that I've overlooked - please enlarge and look closely at photos.
Kimono dimensions are:
50.5 inches long
23 inches flat measure across chest
24 inches center back to cuff
16 inch long sleeves
Would make a beautiful wall hanging, gift, robe/dressing gown, worn over a t-shirt & jeans, or in place of a light, long summer jacket!
