owlyme Unless you have purchased this item from the artisan & was told it is an inkwell, I believe it to be an oil lamp. It is missing the pottery ball that sits over the opening at the top of the pot & has a small hole through which a wick would be threaded & dropping into the oil in the lamp. This is just my opinion but it would be awesome to have lit in the evening in place of a candle. A beautiful piece regardless. Regards. S.
