Fun fact: A tin like this appears on Gwen Verdon's dressing table in "Fosse/Verdon"!
The Vivaudou cosmetics company, where Mavis originated, ruled for decades with fragrances and powders made in France and purveyed in the U.S.--advertised in magazines with lush art deco illustrations, beautifully packaged ... and highly collectible now.
The Mavis scent was perhaps the best known of the era. It is described as a meadow full of flowers.
Mavis talcum powder still carries that meadow scent. I have several tins to list, some of them with a good amount of powder inside. You can see how the design and marketing intention of the packaging changed over the years, as Victor Vivaudou lost control of his company (and was involved in a jewelry smuggling scandal!) and tastes changed ...
