VINTAGE Unique Tulsi Mala from Vrindavan w/ Bark - Hand Carved Tulsi Wood Beads Special vintage but NEW Tulsi Wood Mala, in my private art collection for over 20 years, never used. Extra long approximately 41” around not including tassel, long enough to wear doubled over the head (although such beads are not customarily worn as jewelry). Tulsi Devi is sacred and especially revered by Vaishnava Krishna devotees (such as ISKCON). Saffron colored orange yellow tassel is also the thread these wooden beads are strung on. The beads are individually knotted. It is believed that only a vegan or vegetarian should use Tulsi Devi, so keep this in mind if gift giving. (Other malas are available in my closet for giving to an omnivore.) NEW but no tags as this was acquired directly from the makers in India. 108 beads to chant mantra plus one extra bead, the meru or guru bead. This is a rough carved (semi-carved) mala rosary garland with lots of bark edges, with the idea that the chanter will wear the beads smooth in the repetition of japa mantra, as the fingers move the beads.
