Antique Micro Mosaic Lot: Pin / Brooch and 2 Pendants Brooch closure missing, Stamped Made in Italy Stunning micromosaic Pin / Brooch and 2 Pendants featuring tiny flowers, floral design, and leaves. These micro-mosaic pieces are becoming more difficult to find and are coming up less and less. The micro mosaic dates from the late 1800s to early 1900s. The brooch measures roughly 2 inches from end to end, and just over 1 inch across. There are no missing tesserae I can detect in the mosaics (tesserae are the small handmade glass tiles). Italy was a very popular tourist spot as it had a long & prestigious history in arts and culture - a favorite subject in aristocratic circles. It was also a famous glass producer, & Italian craftsmen quickly turned their glass making skills to making stunning miniature micro mosaic pictures for their rich visitors. Flowers, birds and architecture were a very popular subjects. Each piece of tesserae (little hand-pulled glass tiles) was hand cut by the artist & painstakingly set in place.
