This beautiful traditional necklace was made by Navajo artist Helen Little. I purchased the necklace from her sister, who represents Helen's work. The necklace is made with 4mm round turquoise beads used as extenders and as separators between the natural spiny oyster heishi. It is 25" in length with sterling silver cones and spring clasp. This necklace can be paired with the 20" necklace in a separate listing for a true statement piece.
Unlike silver smithing, beading is an ancient Native American art. The term "heishe" derives from the Santo Domingo word for shell. Sea shells have been traded for use in bead making in the Southwest for over 1000 years and continue to be used in Native America jewelry today.
This is a new necklace, but most of these pieces made by individual artists do not have tags.
Smoke-free, dog-friendly home. Necklace only. Accessories not included.
