Vintage 1950s Mrs. Day’s Ideal Satin Baby Shoes, Size 1, in the original box with literature.
These were my husband’s christening shoes when he was a baby. This is probably the only time that they were worn.
The box says white in color but they are really a light cream color. The box does show some wear from storage over the years.
According to the Danvers Historical Society, Mrs. Day helped introduce the idea of selling baby shoes in department stores. In 1922, Mrs. Day conceived the idea of making lasts (the solid form around which a shoe is molded) for baby shoes designed to properly fit both the right and left foot and established standard sizes. This innovation led to a long-time slogan “The Shoe of the Baby Determines the Foot of the Adult”.
These precious shoes are in excellent condition for their age of 67+ years.
