Vintage Chinese Ceramic Saucer 5.5” Famille Rose Collectible Hand Painted Floral Bird of Paradise Chinoserie Art Decor 1960s Make your next tea party pop with these beautiful Famille Rose plates! The vivid hand painted enamel colors of these extravagant Famille Rose plates stunner mix beautifully into any decor no matter the occasion. The center of the plates feature two birds of paradise surrounded by colorful flowers. Rim is decorated with flowers, birds and butterflies. What is Famille Rose? It is a type of Chinese porcelain with a distinctive style of decoration using (originally) pinks and ruby red colours. All colours used should be pastel colours. Used from mid-1700’s the style became popular in the 18th and 19th century. Many items were exported. The trade does not continue now and items that come up for sale are the previously imported products that still exist today. Some Western companies also produced this style and they are marked with their own brand (not in Chinese). If there is one central image of people/animals it is called ‘Rose Mandarin’ type, if the plate decoration is in quarters it is called ‘Rose Medallion’ type.
