Because sellers need to pay taxes even for canceled items as well.

@dunya143jahan we don't pay taxes on canceled sales. I'm a tax preparer and returned items (an items that weren't even shipped in the first place) don't count in what we pay income taxes on. it's deducted. I have canceled sales for people who have accidentally bid and they have turned into Happy repeat customers because I did not force them into taking things that they can't use. I consider it the cost of doing business.

@readwriteretro oh really I also used to cancel for everyone all the time . But ppl said we have to pay tax even for canceled items 😔 and I’m new in USA so don’t know too much and I’m scared what should I do at tax paying time .

@dunya143jahan sorry - I realized I came across as harsh. no you absolutely do not pay taxes on items that are canceled, returned, etc. you will file a schedule c since you are a business.if you were a physical store and someone purchased an item had a few days and returned it, you would show the sale, but the return item would be deducted in another column and it would be a wash. when you cancel an order on posh, the money never comes into your hands the first time

If you don’t mind can you please give me some info about how to fill out tax file. I mean how we can show our inventory expenses. It’s my first year of sales in poshmark.
Because at DSS they didn’t accept the expenses that we showed.
I have most receipts of my inventory purchases. But they said we don’t know that it’s for your business or for your self, and they canceled our EBT card.
Now I don’t know how to prove it at tax filing.

@dunya143jahan I keep receipts for everything that I buy and enter it on the schedule c tax form as part of my business expenses. keep every receipt from things you buy from thrift stores, auctions. if you go to a private sale where they don't give receipts, buy a receipt book and write what you spent, what you spent it on and the address or name of the business.
