Vintage t-shirt from the 1992 Bronze Medal Winner Olympic Team Signed by Sarunas Marciulionis and Donnie Nelson Incredible back story of this shirt starts with the fall of the Soviet Union which allowed Lithuania to enter the Olympics as an independent country. There was however, no money to support a national team, but Marciulionis who was playing for the Golden State Warriors at the time, and assistant coach, Donnie Nelson, began fund raising in the Bay Area to support a team to participate in the Olympics. An article about the desire to play was read by the Grateful Dead’s publicist who encouraged the band to support this worthy cause. They were impressed by their struggles for independence and freedom. They wrote a large check and designed these shirts in the Lithuanian colors. A team was funded and they ended up winning the Bronze Medal against Russia. The team accepted their medals wearing the shirts! This shirt was purchased at auction around that time during a Warriors game. History, sports, and rock and roll: a combo that works.
