Four vintage Ted Lewy prints of San Francisco framed in ceramic dish wall plaques. Ted Lewy (1912-1963) was a famous San Francisco artist in the 40s and 50s. He was born in Germany and came to San Francisco in the 1930s. He designed shopping bags, cartons and hat boxes for the Emporium and eventually set up his own shop for his paintings in his Sunset District home. Ted Louis reproduced his art in the form of greeting cards, postcards, calendars, playing cards, etc. and are collectible. These four souvenir prints are glued into the plaques and all have his blue and silver foil cable car sticker on the back. Plaques are cream with teal blue inside the frame and are 4 1/4“ x 5 1/4“.
Scenes are titled Chinatown, Telegraph Hill and San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, Fishnet Mending at Fisherman’s Wharf, and California Cable.

Greetings from a misplaced San Franciscan in Fresno, CA. I write to ask about the print showing the Bay Bridge; fourth photo from the top. Am I seeing a chip in the ceramic frame on the white edge of the top portion of the frame, maybe 1.5 inches from the left? There's a dark spot there, and I am wondering what the dark spot might be. Many thanks ... and Thanksgiving wishes. Sincerely, George

@manoravenue It was just a smudge, and I was able to wipe it off!

@shopahoy2 Thank you kindly. I will purchase. Have a couple of the boxes from "The Big E" as we used to refer to The Emporium with the Lewy design that are mentioned in your listing. Also have the Sherrill Graves airbrushed watercolor zebra my late parents bought in San Francisco in 1947 or 1948, Graves being another artist of San Francisco origin.
Thank you again, and best wishes for your holiday season.

@manoravenue How interesting!! Sounds like they are going to the right person!! I’m glad you can appreciate them. I am getting ready to go to work and I work early tomorrow and our post office closes early on Saturdays so I might not be able to mail them until Monday. 😕 Sorry for the delay.

@shopahoy2 Mailing on Monday is hardly what I would consider "delay" at all, and no reason for apology; I'm not among the hoards of frantic people out there (it's obvious in their manner of driving alone), so please mail only when convenient.

@manoravenue you are so polite! Thank you! I took them to the post office around 1:30 today. We should get a confirmation soon. I lived in San Francisco for 30 years and these were nostalgic to me, but I have no room on my walls. I hope you will enjoy them!

Thank you a million for the wonderful Lewy plaques, received today, very nicely packaged. The USPS managed to puncture the box in three places, but the packaging prevented breakage. I felt badly for everyone who lost homes in the terrible fire up your way a year or so ago. My late parents and I visited Santa Rosa in Summer 1970; Dad thought he might move us there when he retired as Mom detested this valley and we’d be closer to San Francisco.

One morning, Mom said we would be cutting our vacation short and returning to Fresno because Dad wasn’t feeling well. Two months later, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and three months after the diagnosis and two operations, he passed away at age 57 on 1-3-71.
I hope we’ll meet again on Poshmark, and the best to you for your Holiday season. Sincerely, George Hewett

@manoravenue I’m so sorry to hear about your dad. He went so quickly. And so young. I was lucky to have my dad until age 83. I’m glad the package arrived with all four plaques intact! I was hoping I packaged it good enough. I can’t believe they punctured the box in three places! Phew!!! I know you will enjoy them. ☺️
