Louis Féraud showed his first couture collection in 1955 in Cannes and his career was launched when starlet Bridgette Bardot bought and wore one of his designs.
He held his first runway show in 1960, after which his clothes were carried by stores in the US, Canada and internationally. In Paris, his boutique sold both his couture and pret-a-porter creations. In the 1960s Feraud was known for his strikingly graphic mod dresses and suits. His style softened in the 1970s, into a look called “The Gypsies” and he specialized in colorful patterns inspired by his travels. He was the first designer to send black models down his runway which caused an initial stir and was soon copied by other designers.
