Personally excavated by me in Arkansas from a crystal mine. < ONE OF A KIND > What Is Smoky Quartz? Smoky quartz is a type of quartz crystal known for its dark, smoky appearance. It ranges in color from light to dark brown and even black. The unique coloring comes from radiation that occurs naturally within the Earth's crust as well as exposure to high temperatures during formation. It can also be found with an orangey or yellow tint due to traces of iron oxide present in it. Besides being a classy looking crystal its also know for its healing properties and ability to guard against negative energies or vibes. This type of crystal has traditionally been used for protection against physical danger and emotional harm caused by toxic people or situations. The Origins Of Smoky quartz It's been around for centuries, but it wasn't until recently that scientists had the means to study its crystal structure and mineral localities. The gemstone was first described in the 1700s, one noted its resemblance to an opaque smoky color of topaz or chalcedony. Named "smoke stone" due to its unique hue. Since then, researchers have studied smoky extensively and determined that the cause of its remarkable colors is a result of radiation from nearby uranium deposits interacting with aluminum within the stone's chemical composition.
