New in box Aprox 3.5” GREEN AND CREAM PUMP based on a shoe by Roger Vivier (French,1913-1998) Gift of Valerian Stux-Rybar, 1980 Balancing function and fantasy, the great designers of the twentieth century created some of the most beautiful shoes ever made. The preeminent postwar designer of imaginative shoes was the Frenchman Roger Vivier. First trained as a sculptor, Vivier revolutionized the heel (he created the stiletto, "comma," and "choc") and set an incomparable standard of overall quality and craftsmanship in shoe fashion. In 1953, Vivier joined the House of Dior, directing the shoe collection for Christian Dior until 1963. This marriage of talent-two leading couturiers-generated a golden era in which the conception of women's dress and shoes were intertwined. The fruits of the collaboration were enthusiastically anticipated each season and were consistently featured on the pages of Vogue. An elaborately decorated evening shoe of yellow-green taffeta and white satin, now in the Museum's Costume Institute, bears the ready-to-wear label, "Christian Dior crée par Roger Vivier." The shoes are embroidered with clear rhinestones and silver sequins. The elongated, narrow square toe is balanced by an equally dramatic needle heel. The Museum's Green and Cream Pump adaptation is based on the original pair. It is cast in resin and painted by hand. It comes with a gold cord for hanging To clean, wipe only with a soft, dry cloth; do not use abrasive cleansers
