To die for… Authentic vintage casque hat with real pheasant and quail feathers, 1950s. Rich brown ones form the edges while multicolor and patterned feathers adorn the center. I love how they swoop in so gracefully to frame the face.
Rounded, close fitting and flexible to mold to the shape of your head. One size fits all. I’ve styled it on a bald mannequin (black netting attached), but you can wear it in a variety of ways: whether perched atop your head or tilted to one side. Hat can also be pinned in place. Adjustable for a variety of hair styles and types. This is a very rare, high-end vintage and collectible piece—particularly in this condition!
Unbranded and/or label no longer attached.
Background: Casque is French for helmet. Casques or “calot hats” or “half hats” came into fashion in the 1920s: closely fitting caps perched on the back of the wearer’s head or wrapped around the head to frame the wearer’s face. As the style resembles a sort of feminine helmet, it became known as the casque. Casques resurged in popularity during the 1950s and were beloved for the way they accented and framed the face. Often trimmed with feathers or leaves, casques have no visor or brim.
