Japanese geta translated under footwear, are/were designed to elevate the wearer from the ground and thus protect the hem of the clothes (particularly expensive kimono) from getting dirty. Geta are carved from a single block of wood.
Geta like these, hand made in the island of Okinawa are closer to a high-heeled sandal in shape, but are still ideal for wearing with kimono, or indeed any outfit! The unique designs of these mid-century geta are traditional Okinawan bingata patterns which are characterized by the bold and colorful floral motifs of sakura (cherry blossoms).
