This piece is part of the Toy's Fantasy collection by Villeroy & Boch, a premier German manufacturer of ceramic and porcelain products, founded in 1748. Now discontinued, this hand painted premium porcelain Fruit/Dessert (Sauce) Bowl, is done in an all over deep red color and the center is decorated with a gingerbread boy and house! Stars and toys dance merrily around the crimped plate border. The Toy’s Fantasy collection is an annual collection designed to celebrate the shapes of the bunter tellers, a paper plate used during the Feast of St. Nicholas. During this German tradition, dating back centuries, children leave a boot and a paper plate (or bunter teller) outside their bedroom doors on the night of December 5th in hopes that St. Nicholas will stop by and leave cookies and other treats!
