This straw tilt hat, ca. late '30s into the '40s, is made from woven straw and is adorned with a wide taffeta bow, cluster of artificial flowers, and a plaid ribbon. The shallow, structured crown is surrounded by black taffeta ribbon and loosely arranged netting; it flows from rounded at the back to smartly concave toward the front. Hat secures to the head by a thin elastic strap that tucks behind your head, under your hair. Great look for tea parties, church, social events. Carries early Consumer Protection label.
SIZE: Marked size 22, but these sit perched atop the head to fit many sizes. Measures about 19" in diameter around inside band, 9 3/4" side to side, 10" front to back. I take a size 22 hat, and this fits perfectly!
CONDITION: VGC+. Flowers and plaid ribbon show wear, and there's a bit of damage to one petal of one flower. Ribbon and bow are excellent. Only issue on the body itself is that there is a very small gap in the straw at the top of the crown (see photo). Not sure if this was in the weaving or there's a piece of missing straw. Overall, hat is in outstanding condition for its age.
