SOLD 4/12
Gorgeous Empoli Art Glass, made in Italy circa 1960s. Tall, footed Apothecary Jar. Lid in “circus tent” style featuring ball knob. Rare in size, color and silhouette! (Other items pictured not for sale).
Handblown cased glass in creamy Butterscotch and Amber: a warm, inviting shade of yellow, with gradient orange and amber on the pedestal and lid. Photos show it in both high and low lights and from each side and angle. (These include reflections in the glass, which should not be mistaken for defects. The color also lightens and darkens depending on the light).
Measures an impressive 15” tall (11.5” without lid). Base is 4” diameter. Diameter at the opening is just over 4 5/8”.
Excellent condition free of chips, cracks, scratches or even flea bites. It retains its beautiful shine. Does have some bubbles and subtle variations in glass, typical of Empoli.
An amazing gift for a Mid Century Modern design lover or fabulous decorative addition to any home.
Background: Empoli is a little town in Italy known for its exquisite art glass, high-end craftsmanship, rich and bright colors, the impossibly skinny stems and necks, and the beautiful shapes and silhouettes crafted from thin glass. Butterscotch pieces provide warmth and a more subdued palette that complements the brighter Empoli glass colors.
