TANNA KASIMIR-HOERNES 'BEETHOVEN'S HOUSE This artwork titled "Beethoven's House" c.1930 is an original color etching by Austrian/American artist Tanna Kasimir Hoernes, 1(contact info removed). About the Art: In May 1817 Beethoven left the Landstrasse in Vienna for the wine-growing village of Heiligenstadt. He hoped that the baths would provide relief from a feverish catarrh that had plagued him since the previous October. The building still stands in the 19th district. It is a double house with a courtyard in between. The composer's quarters were in the left wing on one of the windows from which there is a fine view of the Kahlen and Leopoldsberg to the north. The vignette seen below the street scene is a replica of the life mask made of Beethoven by Franz Klein.This mask is considered the truest representation of the composer's facial features.
