This dramatic wearable art evokes ancient pre-Columbian motifs found in a renewed appreciation for indigenous craft in early 20th Century Mexico. Silversmiths like Chavarrieta created beautiful jewelry that represents a proud and ancient culture. It’s made from 950 silver, reserved for important works as it is a higher silver content than 925 sterling; this is our clue as to the importance of this bracelet and the value that Chavarrieta placed on his own work.
Roman Chavarrieta (R.CH) was an important silversmith for Emma Melendez, and his better pieces come onto the market infrequently. This exquisite bracelet is in perfect, vintage condition with its original, hand-made safety chain, and is clearly marked “Taxco Mex”, “950”, “R.CH” and has the eagle 3 “bell” mark (the eagle 3 mark identified the city of origin as Taxco). The bracelet is approximately 1 ½ inches wide, weighs 85 grams, easily and comfortably fits a 6 1/2-inch wrist. This piece has a rich, vintage patina.
