peamama I suspect the inside ties at the waist are for gathering the back of garment.

tizzyli @peamama hello! They dont gather the back, the back gathering is fixed. But they allow you to keep the coat on by tying it around the waist without closing it down the front. Very intricate piece! Thank you!

peamama is the exterior 100% wool? it looks super dark brown, with black trim? are you the original owner? I'm really familiar with Magnolia pearl's distressing, and it seems to show signs of wear that are different from the distressing it is made with. these are just questions. I have it looks like a beautiful coat though

tizzyli @peamama hello and thanks for looking! I am the original and only owner. Ive only worn this a couple times so its in excellent condition. Its very hard to capture color with the phones but its the same wool used for all the pieces created during that time she made the okeefe wool pants. Thanks again!
