EDUCATIONAL POSTING: Do NOT Purchase*
Navigating the Frye boot market has become increasingly challenging due to a surge in both uninformed & deceitful sellers seeking profits. This trend is not only perpetuated by the inexperienced, but distressingly also by experienced sellers. It not only impacts sales across the board—creating hesitancy in customers—but also challenges our values deeply as pioneers in this market where the Frye brand holds special meaning. While we openly encourage healthy competition, we vehemently oppose scammers & charlatans.
Authenticity remains a pressing issue, with Frye-like styles passed off as genuine—‘accidentally’ omitting labels; mislabeled genders/sizes, misrepresentation of “rare” Frye boots, concealing damage on boots, misrepresenting ‘Black Label’, falsely categorizing vintage Frye boots as ‘Boutique’, listing “rare Frye’s” in an array of sizes, inflating MSRP’s, stealing images—just to name a few! We’ve included examples that highlight just a small sampling of these issues. We have thousands!
While the pursuit of deals is universal, genuine bargains are rare. It’s critical to be vigilant. Ask questions. Get answers—Before hitting that ‘buy’ button. We believe dishonesty won’t prevail in the end, & these sellers will eventually do themselves in. In the meantime, we urge you to exercise due diligence: only purchase from reputable Frye sellers—so we can be here to serve you & most importantly, your hard earned money ain’t blowin in the wind.

just saw a totally fake listing of Frye boots that look like they were literally painted white and they're listed for 499$!!! 😱 and sadly there is an active offer on them 🤦🏼♀️
Jan 02Reply

botablu
@jules1717 You’re very welcome. Yes, there’s countless out there, unfortunately.
Jan 02Reply

laurenmoussa
Thank you for your post! I recently purchased some misrepresented boots and was so disappointed. It was an expensive lesson.
Jan 04Reply

botablu
@laurenmoussa You’re welcome. Sorry to hear it. Yes, an expensive and all too common problem that, on a positive note, can be avoided. Just know too, if something is grossly misrepresented, the marketplaces generally will support your return/refund request as long as the necessary supporting documentation is supplied within the timeframe they require.
Jan 04Reply

ellenmullis
Are there certain sellers you can list to stay away from?
Jan 06Reply

botablu
@ellenmullis Hi. For ethical reasons, we wouldn’t undertake that, and legally, we’re unable to do so. Moreover, creating an exhaustive list isn’t feasible due to the extensive number of sellers — ranging from one-off sellers to ‘professional’ vendors, with more entering the market daily — the list would be endless.
Jan 06Reply

ellenmullis
@botablu understood. Thank you.

Thank you for the very excellent information. It is terrible that people would misrepresent Frye boots this way. You are the real desk and I have followed you for years.
Jan 07Reply

botablu
@nanguerraz Thank you, my friend! Yes, the ongoing situation isn’t good—with Frye's and other brands and sectors affected. Positive change will rely on education and, ultimately, on consumers' choices regarding where and with whom they invest their money.

@astropico Hi. We're unable to access links shared here, and we can't comment on specific listings or sellers. As a general rule, purchasing from a reputable boot seller is advisable to minimize risks.

Thank you for shining light on this. I’ve been suspicious of some listings out there but I’m shocked that some steal your photos and descriptions. I hope you were able to report them.
Jan 13Reply

botablu
@farmgirlfoundit You’re so welcome. Yes, still shocking to us too, even though it’s been happening for the entire time we’ve been in business. And yes, we typically ask them to take it down and those who won’t cooperate or we believe will be problematic, we report. Some platforms are fairly good at taking it as the serious copyright infringement it is; others, you minus well hire an attorney. 😅

uneedthistoo
This is wonderful! I just ran into this situation with microexpression who lists multiple sizes of “rare vintage” boots but how is this possible? And items are listed as boutique which is for wholesale purchased items only. When I asked questions I was instantly blocked after receiving a response that didn’t answer my questions. If truly vintage each item would be listed individually. Not even sure they actually even have any boots at all at this point. Back to the hunt!
Jan 15Reply

botablu
@uneedthistoo 🫢. Thank you! And thanks for sharing your experience.
Jan 15Reply

jean_therapy
Thank you. Excellent write-up. I have a great shoe repair shop nearby who has been fixing my boots for years, so I look for designer shoes that are worn out but worth fixing. I highly recommend anyone buy "rescue" boots and support your local shoe repair guy. I am now buying my first Fryes because I've lost enough weight to finally fit standard calf widths 😁😁
Jan 17Reply

botablu
@jeancarmona Thanks, & congrats! While fully supporting the dying art and profession of Cobblers, caution is advised against purchasing damaged boots for just anyone. Education in "boot rescue" requires vast knowledge of repair possibilities, costs, and limitations—especially with Vintage Frye boots. Many cannot be fully restored today due to obsolete machinery, even by the best Cobblers.
Jan 18Reply

botablu
@jeancarmona If there are experienced local Cobblers, and one can identify minor repairs, that may be fine. However, lacking that knowledge or for more extensive restoration, it's best left to professional expert curators like us and our team.

I bought a pair that I can’t even begin to get on ;( is there anything I can do?
Mar 01Reply

botablu
@hcr1977 If it’s simply a sizing issue, i.e., they don’t fit well, then no - Posh does not allow returns for fit issues. If the boots were misrepresented, such as they’re labeled a size 8 and were mislabeled in the listing as a size 9, then yes. Otherwise, best to relist/reposh.

Thank you, thank you for posting this. I hope people read through all of it! If it’s “too good to be true...” then it IS too good to be true and DO NOT BUY IT. I was totally scammed and I see all the ways here.😩🤦🏻♀️ Thank goodness for the option to cancel! Bought two pairs (🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️) and both said, “Shipped,” but nary a tracking number.🤨 Grateful that we have the option of canceling after a certain time!!! I watched those days count down.😅😬 Live and learn.😬😓
Apr 15Reply

hedgehogcutie
@uneedthistoo yes! Exactly! That’s who scammed me!!!!!
Apr 15Reply

hedgehogcutie
@uneedthistoo to be clear, microexpre***** was who scammed me! Just like you described, but I actually made a purchase (well, two 🤦🏻♀️) and thankfully was able to cancel after they never shipped.
Apr 15Reply

botablu
@hedgehogcutie You’re very welcome. I’m so sorry that happened to you. Yes, thankfully you were able to cancel.
Apr 15Reply

uneedthistoo
@hedgehogcutie yes, thankfully you were able to cancel. I’m really not sure why this seller is able to continue selling here. They obviously don’t have the items they say they do and since drop shipping is against Poshmark regulations they should have been shut down long ago. They really have some bad karma coming their way.

I always look online e but am always skeptical and never purchase. I struck gold at a thrift store and found my dream pair of vintage Frye boots in mint condition, in my size rare 5.5, for $14!!! I almost ran to the counter to pay! It was my unicorn find ❤️
May 04Reply

karlynoelle96
How do you tell if they are mens boots or womens boots?
May 07Reply

pookid3
Good to know… I been trying to find them boot for a while now thank you for sharing…
May 07Reply

botablu
@karlynoelle96 Various factors, including width, can play a role in this determination but even exceptions to these width standards exist. For example, we currently have in stock a "B" width that are men’s (not women’s), which, while not too unusual for a men’s narrow boot, these are actually best suited for a wide width. Established Frye boot vendors provide accurate insights into such determinations & nuances, unlike laypersons or many emerging sellers who may lack the comprehensive knowledge.

juliusgirljr
Thank you for this. Sincerely. It sucks what is happening now that vintage is in high demand. I have the most problems - idk about this platform, I don’t sell here - competing with “vintage” listings for brand new rock tees that are $20-$75 with my actual vintage items.
May 17Reply

botablu
@juliusgirljr Yes, many Americans complain about China, & while their counterfeit items are of concern, the worst copycats are right here at home—on our own soil. Although it's said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, we strongly disagree.
May 18Reply

botablu
@juliusgirljr Many sellers on these marketplaces steal everything, even entire business models. They couldn’t come up with their own ideas if it hit ‘em upside the head. So whether it’s copying ‘vintage’ or copying business models—it’s all the same: unethical thievery.
May 18Reply

mamaandmels
Can you tell me how to look up vintage styles and label information? I’m selling a pair and I’m confident they’re real I just don’t know much about them and want to give an accurate description and a reasonable price, I don’t want to sell them for too little or have them priced so high they don’t sell.

mdklein24
@botablu meeting a Frye boot expert is luck! I purchased Frye boots on this site, now reposted on Poshmark, they don’t fit me. I called their corporate office, to understand sizing, they don’t even know how to explain it. I wear 10 ladies, regular width, am I going to be buying an 11 boot? I know you’re not soliciting for questions, but I appreciate your knowledge immensely. Thanks.
Oct 05Reply

botablu
@mdklein24 Hi. It’s common for corporate offices not to be able to provide specific product details like fit. We often see misinformation about Frye boots, with broad statements like “they run small” or “they run large.” The truth is, it depends. The fit depends on many factors—style, when and where they were produced, toe shape, and even the individual boot—to name a few.
Oct 05Reply

botablu
@mdklein24 Working with a Frye expert who understands these variables is key to finding the right fit, so you can avoid ending up with boots that don’t work for you.

I just wanted to thank you for posting this. As I do have vintage Frye boots in good condition and I know their vintage because I’m the original owner brand new and I know how old I am. I see this a lot with jewelry pathetic. I learned a lot from your post. Thank you so much.

Thanks so much for your informative post! I have 2 questions: is there always a black Frye label inside whether made in the US or Mexico? Or whether vintage or not? And what about the Frye stamp on the sole… should there be one always? Thx
Dec 04Reply

botablu
@sjje_m You’re welcome! If you browse our listings, you’ll notice the difference between Black Label Frye boots and other labels or markings Frye has used over the years. Black Label Fryes were not made in Mexico—they’re true vintage, made in the USA. And no, not all Frye boots have sole markings, despite the common misconception circulating online.
Dec 04Reply

sjje_m
@botablu cool, thx!

I have several pairs of vintage dry boots. The biker buckle square toed. I know they are vintage because I bought them brand new and I’ve had them for years, but thank you very much for putting this out for people that are unaware. I do appreciate that as I will be listing some of my own at some point.

Thank you so much for posting this, it’s so important for people to know 🙏🏻 and Poshmark isn’t doing nearly enough to protect people from scammers. I found this post myself after I started doing some research into microexpressions when she scammed me—I have a case open against her right now, but PM support doesn’t seem to be taking it seriously.
Dec 28Reply

emilysee
So here’s my question: is there something we can do about this if we band together? If everyone submits their stories and complaints against her, maybe they can’t ignore us. I just hate to see her continuing to cheat nice people out of so much money 😞 I really like the community on here and I want to protect it if I can.
Dec 28Reply

botablu
@emilysee You’re very welcome. Unfortunately, the short answer is no. We, along with thousands of others, have been reporting these issues and working to combat this problem for the entire 7 years we’ve been here—all to no avail. It’s one of the main reasons we’ve decided to close our shop on Poshmark in a few days. Unless and until Poshmark completely overhauls its business model, practices, and leadership, I don’t see this changing.
Dec 28Reply

emilysee
@botablu ugh, that’s so upsetting and disappointing. I’m so sorry to hear it—I’ll be sure to look for your non-Poshmark store then, because I’m considering taking my business elsewhere too. I’ll include in my complaints to them that it’s driving reputable sellers off the platform 💔 not that it seems to make a difference to them. Thanks for fighting the good fight for so long and good luck in your non-Poshmark sales!
Dec 28Reply

botablu
@emilysee You’re very kind—thank you again. We told them that too over the years, as many left before us and again when we announced our departure and they couldn’t care less. We greatly appreciate your efforts and support and wish you the best as well.💙

Phenomenal post!! I, too, go after swindlers! I irks me to no end to see these charlatans who live to take advantage of the misinformed and naive buyer. It irks me even more when this platform and many others who do nothing when these sellers and their bogus listings are reported. Keep up the good work!!

@beachgirl062016 Yes ma’am! It’s in large part why we felt this platform wasn’t viable to run a reputable business anymore and made the decision to part ways.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EXPOSING THESE TRUTHS. I had a seller send me two different sized Frye boots with the sizes scratched off on the inside of the boots. Unfortunately I could not try them on as soon as they arrived, and Poshmark gave me a 50% refund. Tried to contact seller multiple times and no response. Ultimately, I ended up getting punished for the scam.
Feb 25Reply

sertaclara0527
@hedgehogcutie YES!!!!! @microexpression scammed me too!!!!!!!! Sent two sizes of boots with size scratched off!!!! I ended up getting refunded 50%!!!!!!!!!!!! Why is this person still selling????????
Feb 25Reply

botablu
@sertaclara0527 You’re so welcome. Yes, been a circus out here for many years and unfortunately only worsening by the day. These platforms, and Posh isn’t the only one, just don’t get it. And so, with limited or no repercussions, the scams just perpetuate. But the good news, you and others do have control by only buying from knowledgeable, reputable sellers. I get sometimes those valuable lessons come at a cost.
