@surfsup2012 Just a little heads up, I'm not a gemologist and I'm not trying to talk you in to buying my blue Star Sapphire, but I just wanted to give you a tip while you're still looking...If a blue Star sapphire shows it's star in no light, it's probably synthetic or even a fake! @gems_m good morning! Sorry for so many questions. I’m wanting to get a star sapphire ring for my mom’s 81st birthday. My dad gave her one not long after they got married, but it got stolen and she talks about that ring all the time. i’ve never bought a sterling silver ring that was coded in platinum, or anything else for that matter. How long or how durable is that platinum coating? Also, if the ring is not the correct size, is it easy to get sized since it does have the platinum coating?

@surfsup2012 Good morning! Platinum is the most durable of the metals as far as shine, it never tarnishes. Sterling Silver is the strongest, hardest metal and is better for holding on to the gemstones than gold. So the 2 put together are a perfect combination for holding onto the gemstone. As for sizing it, I know jewelers can size up or down 2 sizes max.

@surfsup2012 The process of sizing platinum over sterling silver can be done by a talented jeweler, a very faint line, which should be barely visable, will probably be unavoidable though. I hope that helps!
