@dfwtxgal this is Black amber, which is from the Dominican Republic and I also have some pieces from Russia.
Black amber is a fossilized tree resin that has been present for millions of years. It’s composed primarily of carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen in the form of benzoic acid. The exact origins are unknown but it appears to have come from coniferous trees such as pine or fir trees. Its color comes from organic material within it which gives it its unique black hue.
