What a beautiful sample of the amazing millinery fashions of the era! This hat consists of a medium size crown in a tubular shape. The crown has been gathered to create a dramatic and unusual look. There is a matching grosgrain band around the crown which ends in a large bow at the front. She short brim ends in a point at the front. Truly magnificent ostrich feathers emerge from the bow, and project backwards. The feathers have more than one color of purple, which makes them stand out regally.
The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling & artificial flowers were popular.
Store Label: MILBRAE Exclusives
Printed inside the hat: GENOVER - Henry Pollak, Inc. plus illegible letters "...Felt"
