@lorih930 sorry for the delayed response;
pit to pit is 17" flat but there's quite a lot of give since the fabric is gathered. I'd say this is a generous size medium

I have not washed it since I purchased; I tried it on and knew at once I didn't like how it fit me, so I relisted it immediately. I don't know if it had ever been washed before I bought it.
