Gorgeous antique piece in great wearable condition. 1920s-1935 at the latest era authentic Japanese kimono - a timeless silhouette you can work into your normal life and wardrobe. I wear antique and vintage kimonos as robes in the home, I wear them over skimpy outfits as a coverup or beachwear, I make them the entire outfit, layering over a hint of strappy lingerie or nothing at all. The possibilities are endless
The most gorgeous high quality woven crepe silk, so soft and thin, but with textured raised wave patterns woven in - the depth of the sheen of this fabric is due to the special technique of tango chirimen silk - a single color thread when woven in this manner can give off a vast spectrum of depth, hue, shadow etc when in different lights. This effect paired with the wavy weave and perfect teal base hue make for a gorgeous ocean effect here.
The red lining indicates this kimono was likely made no later than 1945, but I’m leaning older here - my gut says late 1920s/early1930s. Gorgeous dye work, drapes like a dream due to the skin-soft air-light fabric choice - an inspired take on the traditional arrow print.
