Vintage Handmade Tabacco Silks quilt

Cigarette silks large quilted blanket with rounded ric-rac edge. Introduced in the twentieth-century, and popular during WWI these collaged pieces are all very unique. This particular one is machine stitched with care, and in a patriotic manner. There are approximately 99 squares with 42 unique designs unless I miscounted. It measures about 78"x 80" Some squares include women. An Irish one, one from Norway, England, Italy, Belgium and Austria. There are countries new and old including 2 Chinese types of flags, Servian flag (x4), Turkey (x2), Austria (x2), Spain (x3), Germany (x6), Japan (x3), Belgium flag (x2), Poland (x5), Egypt, Zion, Mexico (x3), Albania, England (x5), Austria/Hungary (x6), Ireland (x3), Greece (x4), Holland (x4), Norway (x2), Cuba (x7), Sweden, Switzerland (x3), Montenegro (x2), France (x3), Denmark (x2), Scotland (x2), Russia (x2), Scotland, New Portugal, Bulgaria (x2) Songs: England, Mexico Hymn, "Will you sometimes think of me?", Italy national anthem
