I’m not sure of the type of wood but I find it more beautiful in person. It might be Oregon Myrtlewood or Maple but I can’t say for sure. It has some flaws in the wood from age which adds a lovely patina. There’s a tiny speck of white paint and some darkened spots inside that may be natural in the wood or possibly from ink, not sure. See photos. The lid is very tight fitting and takes a good swivel and pull to open. Nothings going to fall out! Bottom is numbered ( in a series, 3/84) and possible original price is listed ($56).
