A gorgeous specimen of true vintage to antique outerwear from Kyoto Japan. Gorgeous high quality woven silk, a crepe silk exterior with luscious metallic thread embroidery depicting provincial scenes of harvested bushels of grain or wheat. There is a mirror / ghost woven pattern on the silk that shows up in different lighting for a gorgeous effect. A Haori was traditionally worn over a kimono as a sort of coat / outerwear. In modern times it’s become a timeless wardrobe staple that works so many ways - I’ve worn them alone as an oversized dress, left open over lingerie / nightwear style slips , over swimwear, as an overcoat, as a robe at home relaxing in opulent antique luxury. The options are endless. The haori strings to tie the garment closed are even super detailed in hand woven string. Even the lining of the haori is stunning - a totally different pattern of woven high quality silk that changes in the light. This haori kikono jacket is in excellent vintage condition with no visible wear or issues to my eye - perhaps even dead stock from storage.
