Hello Tina, The gold tone metal band & watch face pulls off the crystal base. It looks like a round watch face without a watch band. The change hand change control is a small dial on the back side of the watch/clock. The small compartment.battery is also in the back of the watch face. When finished you can just pop the watch/clock face back into the crystal base. I hope that helps. Thank you, Sarah W.
