chantelfrancina @a1astrid Will do and thank you! To be completely transparent, this piece inspired me as part of my Melungeon heritage…but I did not physically “make” the spider pendant, I purchased it as it looked great with the other pieces of the line! If that makes a difference in the requirements for the pieces in your collection, please let me know asap and I can cancel the order for you.

a1astrid @chantelfrancina If you fast scroll my closet, I too made jewelry and lots of it. I just found out last week what melungeon is, I live here and it is not taught and nor said the same anymore it's injun now. I am forty before I learnt what the deal with us was when our elders started passing they diverged

a1astrid more stories that were kept secret as to "protect" the youngins, but what it did was confuse the lot and made us act out. The families left are struggling and moving as we speak for a casino has come in near by and and booming the mountains. We are leaving this year. Been here my whole life. After a DNA test I start asking questions as to why and was told this. I've been

a1astrid shouted many names and have been called sun kissed thus my story too, but it was not in a blessed connotation. I was that one. voted most different in high school because no group allowed me in nor my cousin the male counterpart.

a1astrid The last of us again are being bought off and sold and taken with loopholes in old taxes. They tried to sell mine four times now and even started a building with us living on it!

a1astrid All that aside I am gathering the last of the things we can carry ( My husband is Puerto and Melungeon too) We are taking history and going. I don't have much left anyhow. They have torn up and deforested so much you cannot recognize the forests and the graves are now farms.

a1astrid I would like to add this piece to my collection and you making it the same way I do and being honest is a better story for me to write down and preserve than the piece itself. I want my children to have honor and integrity in all things. So I would still like it. It is the most eye catching though and very beautiful. You should be proud!

a1astrid by the way I stopped making jewelry here as they claimed I was copying when I was selling from the farmer's market. A lawyer told me to cease etc. from a website that is much like this one. They sided with the lawyers and removed my things. When I proved it was false and I had made my jewelry from a hair bow I bought in a bin, they released my account,

a1astrid but the damage was done. I had a reputation in town of course. How? if it was online only the people around me knew. Some people started selling the same type of jewelry later at private parties. So, Corona killed the last of it when no one bought them and I had to sell my supplies for cash that year. This website never took down my things. Just be careful the platforms you choose.

chantelfrancina @a1astrid OMGOSH! First your jewelry is so beautiful! And second what an experience! I’m 43 and my grandmother’s mother is Melungeon and Cherokee! My great grandmother was the brownest of her 4 siblings and was often hidden when guests came over and made to go through doors labeled ‘colored’ when they went shopping as they would also sometimes say she was their adopted sister or maid to protect themselves and her.

chantelfrancina My great grandmother’s siblings went on to pass as white and married men who never knew of their ethnicity while my great grandmother moved from Tennessee to Baltimore and married a black many never understood her Melungeon heritage and thought she was solely Cherokee.

chantelfrancina I know of other elder cousins who denounce their Melungeon roots my guess was to try to fit in or find a way to. My grandmother was proud of every part of her heritage and it is great to see you be as well!! I wonder if you and I are related!! My mother lives in WVA now which has some Melungeon heritage there too. Will you publish your collection?! I would love to see and share it with my family!

a1astrid @chantelfrancina We stayed in the tip of Virginia. Both sides. You might have heard of my family names in stories, my husband and I both tested positive for that ship DNA and I'll leave it at that. We are seeing more people here and the crime is out of control. Every day on the news it's heart breaking. Tune in to Tricities sometime. We were not passable as some, but no one I went to school with is here. I live on the old one room school house.

a1astrid We have been called every name under the sun and my son was hurt real badly. We have bad healthcare here. I have to drive 400 miles to get her an appointment upstate. Dental is a joke. I went first time at 32

a1astrid The families left have lots of sicknesses and died off. We are getting out to get better care for my daughter who has a rare disorder. It all made sense when I read stories etc. They don't teach anything of the Cherokee. My grandpa was an honorary Seminole later, but he is a burnette and Melungeon. He taught us and told us to festivals etc. He didn't know as they moved off and came back and swore to secrecy. My mom's side was always passable with poor Irish and German over and over...

a1astrid The language has changed, but not the story and not the attitude. I'll leave it at that. Been nice talking to you. I hope you are blessed and may fortune favor you as you find open windows instead of closed doors. By the way my Name is Rose.

chantelfrancina @a1astrid Developers these days are destroying heritage and history and it seems unending! My father’s grandmother is white and her descendants own the land that North Caroline A&T was built on and my father’s father is Gullah Geechee and owns land that Hilton Head was built on.

chantelfrancina @a1astrid So the same thing happening to your Melungeon owned land today happened to other tribes-racial groups almost 100 yrs ago! I wish you could keep your land and lease it to developers or rent your residence out! It may be hard right now put all pendulums swing back to the other side.
