Norma Kamali avant-garde vintage couture 1980s sapphire velvet peplum jacket

Norma Kamali's 1980 couture style was fearless -- bold in cut and style, and this beautiful jacket/top, with its stylized 1980s peplum that is cut high in the front and longer in the back, is no exception. It is made of rich sapphire cotton velvet, and it has huge dolman sleeves -- another 1980s style -- and a bodice that can be worn with a camisole under it [or without, if you too are fearless] and with the lapels folded over and pinned for a more demure look. There are three snaps at the waist, and shoulder pads -- 1890s! -- that can be easily snipped out. The dolman sleeves fit smoothly at the shoulder -- any "bump" is from how a shoulder pad hangs on a hanger narrower than a human shoulder. Kamali collectors, this should be in your closet! The size label is medium, but keep in mind that vintage sizes are different. The measurements: jacket length front 24 inches, back 30 inches; pit to pit looks to be about 18 but harder to tell with dolman sleeves; sleeve length 24 inches; waist 12.5 inches [if you choose to snap this closed at the biggest snap, it could measure 14 inches side to side but the snap band would show]; natural shoulders 16.5 inches.
