The Spring/Summer 2001 collection of Alexander McQueen, titled VOSS, was a highly celebrated show that stunned audiences. The collection featured garments crafted out of mussel, razor clam, and oyster shells sourced from a beach in Norfolk and Billingsgate Fish Market. In McQueen’s hands, these relics of the sea cocooned the body in shoal-like forms. The show was held at the Gatliff Road Warehouse in London on September 26, 2000. The show’s core artistic message seems to resonate more in today’s time of rapidly shifting trends, body pressures, and increasingly unattainable beauty standards.
