This listing is for a fantastic pair of hand painted vases by Noritake featuring a wonderful desert scene complete with camels and Bedouins as shown in the photos.
Design shows a hand painted desert scene to the exterior, the scene features a desert oasis scene with camel and rider at camp with a pitched tent, smoke billowing from an adjacent fire, the background filled with palm trees, rolling hills and Pyramids. Beautifully colored with sandy yellows and sunset oranges offset by the blueish purple capped hills. To complete the design features a deep rich broad cobalt band with raised gilded and beaded decoration of stylized flower and scrolls with a central typically Japanese floral structure.
The vases measure approximately 8" tall and 5.5" in width and are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. There is some minor wear to the gild on the handles due to the age. These date to around 1910. Hallmarked "Camel China" on the bottom as shown in the photos. Camel China was a break away firm of Noritake. Each of the vases is signed by the artist as shown.
This pair of wonderful vases were purchased by my grandparents who were stationed in Japan after WWII in 1946. They sat on their mantlepiece for many decades until they were given to me in the early 2000s. Now it's time for them to have a new home.
