Antique black or blue and gray spatter enamelware milk jug from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. Miners and other laborers used these jugs to carry soup, milk or water for their meals. There are slots on the side of the tin lid that match up with knobs on the interior opening of the jug that, when turned, held the lid on tightly. The tin lid has normal wear and the interior of the jug is clean, just a a spot of missing enamel on the outside of the body as shown in photo. The wire bail handle moves smoothly, and the black painted wooden handle has very nice patina from handling. It appears like black but it could be blue. Please see closeups. It's in very good condition for its age and would make a nice addition to a collection of enamelware, or use for your primitive or rustic-style farmhouse decor.
It measures 11 1/2" tall to top of wooden handle, 9 1/4" tall top of handle on lid, 5 1/4" diameter
