Signed Eduard Kleblena antique Hare Rabbit Figurine. Small glaze chip one one ear clearly done years ago. This artist work sells for thousands in the larger pieces. This small Hare is wonderful. Research shows it was made in 1918. Bio below.
Eduard Klablena was born in Bučany in Slovakia in 1881. In 1895 he became a student at the studio of the chaser and sculptor Karl Waschmann, and in 1900 he started attending the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts as a guest student. From 1902 to 1910 Klablena mainly lived in Germany, especially in Berlin. He designed models for the Königliche Porzellan Manufaktur (KPM) Berlin, among other things. In 1910 he returned to Austria and founded his own workshop in Langenzersdorf near Vienna.
As early as 1911-12, he enjoyed success with his ceramic designs at the winter exhibition of the former Austrian Museum for Art and Industry, today’s MAK Vienna, predominately with animal sculptures, though also with ‘fashion ladies’. The successful presentation of his ceramic works at this ‘competitive exhibition’ of Austrian artists culminated in the long-term acceptance of 120 models by the Wiener Werkstätte. In the years to follow, Eduard Klablena distinguished himself with his ceramics at important exhibitions both at home and abroad, above all in Germany, and exported his works all over the world from 1915 onwards. He died in Langenzersdorf in 1933.
