On the back, you can see a porthole window where the item is stamped on the Wedgwood made in England and there is additionally a metal ring for hanging.
This rare black jasperware plaque is an ideal piece for a collector with the scene it depicts having historic references going back more than 250 years.
The scene on the plaque pays homage to similar scenes of Putti at play which can be found on much earlier Wedgwood pieces, including Jasperware plaques made during the George III period (usually 1760-1800) and a beautiful Wedgwood porcelain plaque painted by Joseph Palin Thorley, (c. 1910) which also showed the same scene displayed on this plaque of four Cupids or Putti, in Classical style, variously carrying a garland of flowers, a flaming torch, a trumpet, and one accompanied by a goat, before a brazier.
