Charles Noke, artist and potter, was the Artistic Director at Royal Doulton from 1914 until he retired from the position in 1936 at the age of 78. Noke continued to work at Royal Doulton until his death in 1941. This pristine ale pitcher bears his signature. The format of drinking cavaliers was taken from the novels of Charles Dickens. This pitcher, 8.5" tall and 5" wide at the opening, is in absolutely perfect condition, which is remarkable given its age. There are no chips or cracks and minimal fine age crazing. The colors are rich. Although the photos show the pitcher to be white, it is off-white leaning toward light sand color. A truly beautiful piece!
