It was discovered in 1910 in Madagascar, and the mineralogist G.F Kunz purposed the name “Morganite” in honor of J.P Morgan who was his boss as the financier of Tiffany’s where Mr. Kunz worked. Mr. Morgan was a gem collector as well as a donor to multiple museums and the arts, and the name Morganite was made permanent at a meeting of the New York Academy of Sciences on 5 December 1910.
