**I discovered a little mark on the base. It’s like less and 1/4 of an inch long. I am not sure what it is. It isn’t rough like a chip. Maybe the brass is tarnishing there? I tried to rub it away but it’s still there. See photos. I believe this is made in Japan. There are no makings except for an “M” on the bottom. It twists apart into several pieces for cleaning. It is in excellent condition for its age. My aunt was given it in the 60s. It could use some polishing if you like it shiny. There is a little reside on the bottom. My aunt put sticky pads to keep them from stretching the table and the pads fell off but left some white residue. It is no longer sticky.
