*Description: This is a beautiful and unique West Germany amber colored beaded necklace with art beads in Lucite and acrylic from the 1950s. The necklace has a matching box clasp and is in two strands. One of the art beads is an intaglio flower which is recessed into the topaz Lucite with gold trim. Another is a tan and black Lucite art bead that almost looks like an animal print. This is a beautiful necklace and would be a great addition to your vintage jewelry collection or make a great vintage gift!
After WWII, Germany was divided into four sectors: American, British, French, and Soviet. In 1946, there was a guarded border between West Germany and East Germany. Then in 1952, the border between the two was closed until it was reopened again in 1989. Due to the history, it is possible to date some of the jewelry made in Germany. Jewelry made before 1949 is marked GERMANY, but jewelry made after that time up until 1990, is marked WEST GERMANY. Jewelry made after 1990 is again marked GERMANY.
The most collectible marked W. Germany pieces are jewelry sets: pins and earrings, or necklaces and earrings made of elaborate filigree metal and decorated with tiny colorful beads and pearls.
