Acquired and imported from Cadaqués, Catalonia, Spain. Among all of Dali's etchings, this specific etching was particularly dear to him. Salvador Dalis' influence and inspiration for this etching, titled "Boy," was the renowned 17th century Dutch Old Master painter, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn. The etching "Boy" was drawn after Rembrandts' "Portrait of a Boy" circa 1641, which is not for sale and is currently displayed in the Norton Simon Museum of Art in Pasadena, CA. (seen above). The "EA", for "epreuve d'artiste," or artist is proof in the left margin; Dali was present when this lithograph was made and that he personally approved the quality and content of this particular first image. The first approved by artist, printing of any subsequent image. These prints are usually kept by the artist as a record of the print's progression but can also, seldomly, be released to market. Hence, this etching is Non-Numbered and is extremely rare. Rare hand-signed etching in sepia titled “Boy” by master artist Salvador Dali, published in 1968. This etching is hand-signed in pencil by Dali on the lower right. Image/plate size: 4 7/8 x 6 7/8”; Sheet: 10 7/8 x 14 3/4” - Framed 14 1/2 x 18”, in original 1968 wooden frame and matte, and the cardboard backing with Dalis' handwritten "REMBRANT". "Artist Proof is unlike those Numbered Limited Edition Etchings as this Artist Proof (E.A.) is also pencil provided on etching by Artist, Salvador Dali by his own hand (E.A.)." (photograph #3)

sybaritica Thank you again. Unfortunately, my new wife won't let me keep it, so you might be surprised if I accept. The same dilemma for the Waterford collection among others.
