It’s designed for drier conditions, with increased breathability compared to the waxed version. Patented in March of 1914, the Filson Cruiser was designed for foresters cruising timber ahead of logging crews. The original was made from warm Mackinaw Wool and available as a pullover or button-front jacket. The waxed cotton version followed soon after, with double-layer outer sleeves and shoulder fronts for added water protection. The waxed canvas version was an alternative to wool in wet, muddy, and brushy conditions. In the 1970s we introduced a version that was treated for water resistance but wasn’t waxed, and now it’s returned.
