@lianakarsay I’m not home right now, but I believe that’s normal part of the suede type leather on the bottom. I’ve only tried them on in my home- they did seem to be completely new as far as I could tell. (I ended up purchasing an 8.5 because I LOVED them but these were just a tad too small for me)
