Y's for Men - Yohji Yamamoto
Collection: Archive (1979 to early 1980s)
Item: ML-B08-021
Composition: Cotton (100%)
Made in Japan.
This is an oversize shirt from the earliest Y's for Men collections, Yohji Yamamoto's first line for men. It can be dated by the label style and it is most likely from sometime between 1979 and the early 1980s. It features double front pockets created by a large panel attached to the front from seam to seam, a technique known as docking (when different sections of fabric are combined to create unique visual and functional elements).
The fabric is fine white dash stripes on an alternating blue and brown backdrop. By using these colours Yohji-san created an optical mixing effect which makes the shirt look taupe, grey, or charcoal coloured from a distance. The shirt showcases the kind of exceptional design that characterize the best of Yohji-san's work, and is a unique piece for collectors of his archival work. In very good condition for age with light fading and no structural issues, all buttons intact including the extra button.
