A rare vintage brooch-fur clip designed by Adolp Katz in the 1940's by Coro Craft.
This owl design is done in gilt gold. The owls have green faceted crystal eyes and pave rhinestone heads and wings. Their beak and feathers are enamel.
The owls brooch clip is marked Coro Duette, and Pat. No. 1798867.
On the inside of one owl is the Coro logo with a Pegasus.
The brooch measure just under 2 inches high, and 2 inches wide.
This brooch-fur clips are in great vintage condition!
Wonderful, iconic 1944 Adolph Katz for CORO CRAFT sterling enamel owls duette/clips/pins and clip/pins. These beautiful bird clip/pins feature colorful, yet subtle, green with
yellow/black/reddish-brown enamel and huge faceted emerald green and clear pave accents. The duette is designed to allow the wearer the choice of both owls on the frame or one or both separately. Gold vermeil over Sterling base metal.
The duette measures 2 1/8"L by 1 7/8"W.
Each separable clip is 1 3/4" by 1 1/8".
One clip is marked CORO CRAFT and both are marked STERLING. The duette frame is marked CORO DUETTE, STERLING, and PAT NO. 179886.
Advertised in 'Vogue' Magazine August 1 1, 1944. Book reference here can be found on page 11 of Brunialti's 'American Costume Jewelry - Art and Industry; Very good vintage condition with minor wear to the enamel.
Duettes were combinations of a pair of dress or fur clips clipped into a metal frame with a brooch type finding (pinstem) so that you could wear the clips separately.
